Josephine K. Henry, letter responding to Frances Willard’s praise of the bible. Published in the Appendix of The Woman’s Bible, 1897. For more information on Josephine K. Henry, see Women Without Superstition.
How appropriate this quote is. All of these men who are trying to run our lives are Christians. Rick Santorum who has so much to say about our health and sex lives, is a Christian. This quote is from 1897; 115 years later we’ve come so far, but women are still expected to be Proverbs 31 wives. We are expected to be docile and submissive. We are allowed to have bold and strong opinions, but they better be the same opinions as our husbands. Of course I’m going to be accused of blowing this out of of proportion, but pay close attention to the look of adoration Karen Santorum’s face when her husband his spewing his premium grade misogyny. She is not an isolated case. Many of these sexist politicians have wives that stand by their side. ~ Kim
